WHAT IS TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING?
Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) an education, training or learning activity which provides knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant for employment or self-employment. TVET is recognised to be a crucial vehicle for social equity, inclusion and sustainable development.
The common feature of TVET is that it involves, in addition to general education, the study of technologies and related sciences as well as the acquisition of practical skills, attitudes, and knowledge relating to occupations in various sectors of economics and social life through formal, non-formal and informal learning.
In TVET, learners have the opportunity to learn from basic to advanced levels across a wide range of institutional and work settings.

HOW DO TVET COURSES DIFFER FROM HIGHER EDUCATION COURSES?
Traditionally, TVET courses are known to focus more on providing practical and work-orientated occupational skills, whereas university or higher education courses are better known for focusing on providing theory-based knowledge and professional career paths. There are many exceptions to this rule, however, because TVET covers such a wide range of different courses and qualifications.
TVET courses cover:

basic life skills, even literacy and numeracy training (such as pre-vocational training or foundation studies)

basic vocational skills for particular occupations (such as welder and pipe fitters)

semi-professional vocational training (such as business advertising, and occupational health and safety)
